Abstract
Police Annual Search and Rescue Statistics have been collated from the national Police Lotus Notes database. A 3% increase in search and rescue activity for the year has been recorded. The greatest increase was in marine search and rescue incidents, 76 more than last year. This year is the last the old class system is being used. In future reports, Class two and Class three will be referred to as Category I and Category II respectively.
The statistics for 2007 2008 reveal the following:
•713 class two land search and rescue incidents
• 766 class two marine search and rescue incidents
• 69 class three incidents
• 154
• 7 incidents were attended
• Over 2067 people were assisted
• 158 were tourists (8%)
• $1,789,568 was spent delivering class II land incident response
• $663,828 was spent delivering class II marine incident response
• $108,181 was spent by Police supporting class III land incident response
• $66,364 was spent by Police supporting class III marine incident response
• 83 fatalities occurred, 13 through suicide.
