Abstract

In this chapter, the authors argue that the relationship between sport and the media is highly significant in understanding the place and meaning of sport in New Zealand life. They consider: the changing technologies, organisation and economics of ‘mediasport’; the ways in which mediasport is produced, including what gets covered or ignored; the power of the sports media to influence societal beliefs and attitudes; and the relationship between mediasport and audiences.
