Abstract

In the course of an innings, cricket batsmen may have to intercept a ball bowled to them at a range of different speeds. We sought to investigate:

1. Whether the eye movement strategy was determined by delivery speed

2. How eye movement strategy was affected by skill

3. How the delivery method (balls delivered from a ball machine or a bowler) affected eye movement strategies.

Recording eye movements of athletes represents an interesting window into the information they use to inform decision making. Skilled athletes tend to watch the object that they need to intercept closely, but not necessarily for the entirety of its trajectory.
