Abstract
The Waikato Lakes Tourism Development Feasibility Study was prepared for the South Waikato Economic Development Trust during the period of July to September 2004. The scope was to conduct a feasibility study that would underpin the development of recreation facilities and high yield outdoor tourism in the South Waikato District. The aims of the study were to determine which of the 6 hydro lakes located on the Waikato River had the most potential for developing economic benefits for the district. The research approach was based on visits to the area, focus group meetings, informal discussions with locals, bus drivers, people involved in the tourism industry and internet research.
