Abstract

The Primary Schools’ Sport Coaching Programme began in 2008. It sees young coaches working with teachers to deliver active sports skills to thousands of North Canterbury primary school students, on an ongoing basis. It’s an all-round success for everyone involved — not just for the students.

The programme is notable for being well down the road to long-term sustainability, even in the face of the Christchurch earthquakes. This case study explores how that sustainability was achieved, and what makes the programme a strong model for other regions.

This case study discusses the process involved in developing a coaching programme for primary school students.
