Abstract

The primary objective of this research was to understand gaming trusts’ funding of sport, recreation and physical activity. This report analyses funding from the five largest gaming trusts in 2007. These trusts contribute around 75% of the gaming funds into the sector. For the report three research questions were developed: how are funds distributed within sport, physical activity and recreation sectors; what funds are distributed at a national, regional, club and school level; for what purpose are the funds distributed. The study was divided into two parts. Part one involved a discovery phase that assessed what information was available and what can be practically done in reference to the study’s objective and research questions. Part two involved data collection, data entry, analysing and graphically presenting the data. This report presents findings relating to part two only. The report analyses the trusts’ granting by: sport and level (local, regional, national etc); purpose (in detail); sport within regions; and type of physical activity and recreation.
