Abstract

This is the last year the Police annual Search and Rescue Statistics will be presented in this format. With the development of the electronic data collection form on the Police Lotus Notes system the format of the annual report will change. The electronic format will enable more accurate statistics to be recorded with more data on lost person behavious able to be recorded.

  • 582 class one and two land search and rescue incidents
  • 498 class one and two marine search and rescue incidents
  • 1483 persons were assisted during land and marine incidents
  • 19,481 hours were contributed by volunteers towards land incidents
  • 9480 hours were contributed by Police towards land incidents
  • 3848 hours were contributed by volunteers towards marine incidents
  • 2612 hours were contributed by Police towards marine incidents

The Search and Rescue environment is changing with the development of the Search and Rescue Council, Secretariat and Rescue Co-ordination Centre New Zealand. These organisations will have a beneficial effect on Search and Rescue within New Zealand.
