Abstract

Te Ara: The Encyclopedia of New Zealand is building a comprehensive guide to our peoples, natural environment, history, culture, economy and society.  This is an excellent free resource for all those interested in researching the history of sport and recreation in New Zealand.

The website includes Your Stories. This part of the website includes a growing number of sports stories (from adventure racing, to motor sport, to skateboarding), presented as both short and more detailed narrative histories, along with historic images and videos. Check out the latest story on Athletics:

The Te Ara website also has other sections which cover a wide range of sport and recreation topics (from amateurism/professionalism, gender and sport, sport and society and so on http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/new-zealanders-and-sport).
