Description of Project

Volleyball New Zealand’s records indicate that Bay of Plenty (BOP) secondary school volleyball teams have enjoyed unparalleled success at the VNZ Secondary School Championships since the inaugural championships in 1969. Bay of Plenty teams have won 64% of all premier division titles.  The aim of this project is to gather, through interviews with former and current coaches, an understanding of the factors that have influenced the success of BOP secondary school volleyball teams.   The data has the potential to unearth reasons for the success and provide the basis for a model for sustained excellence.   This information may be of interest to Volleyball BOP, Volleyball New Zealand and other Regional Secondary School Sport codes throughout New Zealand.
