Abstract

In this chapter, the author explores, at a broad level, some of the interconnections between politics and sport. In particular, he considers: ‘power’ as a central dimension of all social relations; ways in which sport is connected to wide-ranging political processes; the hegemonic nature of sport; the politics within the world of sport; and the notion that ‘sport and politics’ should not mix.
