Abstract
Harbour Sport’s ActivAsian team surveyed 108 Chinese students in 4 primary schools on the North Shore:
- Sunnynook Primary School
- Sunnybrae Normal School
- Takapuna Primary School
- Willow Park Primary School
The main objective of the survey is to explore the sporting interests and barriers faced by Chinese students and families. Key findings include:
- 72% of students played sport after school, with the majority participating in swimming.
- 91% students said they would like to play MORE sports, the top three sports being table tennis, tennis and badminton
- Main barriers to sports are that they do other things (45%) and sport is too expensive (41%)
- A larger percentage of males (82%) played sport outside of school compared to females (62%)
