Abstract
Harbour Sport’s ActivAsian team surveyed 94 Chinese students in 4 primary schools on the North Shore:
- Sunnynook Primary School
- Sunnybrae Normal School
- Takapuna Primary School
- Willow Park Primary School
This is the third year that the Chinese students were surveyed in the four schools. The main objective of the survey is to explore the sporting interests and barriers faced by Chinese students and families, and to compare our findings from that in 2010. Key findings include:
- 75.8% of students played sport after school(71.4% in 2010), with the majority participating in swimming.
- 96.4% students said they would like to play MORE sports (88.9% in 2010), the top three sports being Netball, Table Tennis and Badminton.
- Main barriers to sports are that they do other things (45%) and sport is too expensive (35%), these two barriers remained top 2 in the last 2 years.
- Interest and participation in Netball and Cycling have increased significantly since previous years.
