Abstract

The authors look at the abortive initial attempt to establish rugby league in Wanganui. They attempt an analysis of who played and who organised the sport locally, survey its difficulties and successes, and suggests reasons for its disappearance from Wanganui in 1915. This demise contrasts sharply with the situation in Australia, where the code was consolidating itself at this time
