Abstract

Objective of the research was to establish the knowledge and beliefs of the parents of male high school rugby players about concussion injuries. Two hundred parents were interviewed using a descriptive cross-sectional intercept style survey during high school rugby games they were attending. Eighty-three percent of parents reported that they were able to recognise a concussion in their teenager and provide a list of signs and symptoms. Nearly all (96%) were aware of the risks of continuing to play while concussed, and approximately half were aware of return-to-play recommendations after a concussion
